Fishing Lake Erie for walleye Tom landed his first Steelhead Trout, which are not native to the Lake but stocked into local rivers like the Rocky River and Vermilion River. They go deep during the warm months and feed on mysida, better known as mysis shrimp. As the colder months approach the trout spawn back up the rivers and it is time to bring out the fly rod, though I enjoy using a spoon at the mouth as they all begin or end the migration. With the spoon I can fish off the banks without having to wear waders. Steelies are great sport fish and leap out of the water once hooked. Though Tom doesn't look happy he felt the thrill of trout fishing and will probably catch the hook himself.
